Picture limestone cliffs closing around a fine-sand beach, and a narrow path people made along the rock to reach it.

02

Getting there and around

Reachable on foot from Cát Bà town. The beach is a few hundred metres from Cát Cò 1, and the two beaches are linked by a small path along the mountain slope, with a section of bridge along the cliff.

03

Before you go

It has not been established whether the beach is open to everyone or only to staying guests. OpenStreetMap records the beach as for customers (access=customers), while tourism sites call the whole Cát Cò cluster a public beach. If you go down to swim, swim only within the buoy line and do not swim far from shore, and do not swim when it is already evening because the tide rises quickly, with an archipelago tidal range of 3.3–3.9 m. The sea-bathing season is about April–October; storms in Hải Phòng usually come from June to September and when there is a storm the beaches around the island may be temporarily closed (Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre). There is no source specific to this beach on current, submerged rocks or lifeguards.

04

What this place is

A natural beach with fine sand, enclosed between limestone cliffs. The beach is divided into a front beach and an inner beach, separated by a small headland with a cave arch. The path through the cave can be flooded when the tide rises.

05

Busy and quiet times

Quieter and emptier than Cát Cò 1, which is near town and so busier. In midsummer, especially at weekends, the whole island is still crowded with visitors; from November to March the island is rather empty.

The story

Cát Cò 2: the cliffs came first, the path came later

The mountains here came before any building in Cát Bà town. The island is mostly limestone mountains broken by narrow valleys, and at Cát Cò 2 they close into a ring around a beach of fine sand. That makes the beach sheltered, and quieter than Cát Cò 1, a few hundred metres away. A small rocky headland splits the beach in two, a front beach and an inner beach. A cave arch runs through that headland. The shore faces southeast.

Location: the Google Maps pin 'Bãi tắm Cát Cò 2', looked up by hand by the product owner on 2 Oct 2026. On 12 Oct 2026 the pin was cross-checked against the beach area on OpenStreetMap: the coordinates lie within Cát Cò 2 beach, about 37 m from its centre, not mixed up with Cát Cò 1. OpenStreetMap writes 'Cát Cỏ 2'; Báo Hải Phòng and Tuổi Trẻ write 'Cát Cò 2', so the name follows the press. The description of the beach enclosed among rocky hills, the path along the hillside and the bridge along the cliff face comes from Vietnambooking (2017), Traveloka and Sun Paradise Land (22 Jul 2026). The details of the front beach, the inner beach and the cave arch have a single source, Traveloka. The swimming season, the busy season and the quiet season come from VnExpress's Cát Bà guide (7 May 2022). The storm season comes from the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre. The safety recommendations and the 2024 inspection of 4 beaches come from Báo Hải Phòng. The tidal range and the titles of the Cát Bà archipelago come from the Vietnamese Wikipedia. Some information was rejected: the figure '600 m from the centre' (measured on the map it is about 960 m from the town ferry pier); the claim 'beautiful sunset' (the shoreline faces southeast, so the sun sets behind the hills); and the line 'no beach has lifeguards' from vietnamtourism.com, a site that is not the tourism sector's official portal, contradicted by Báo Hải Phòng in 2024. Access rights to the beach (public or for hotel guests only) are still not established. No photo has yet been verified as taken at Cát Cò 2 beach itself, so this page has no photos.
