The Duck Stop Catba
Picture a pond, a bamboo fishing rod and a handful of rice grain scattered for ducks, things anyone who grew up in the Vietnamese countryside has seen. Now picture that same handful scattered over you.
In the Phù Long countryside on the west side of Cát Bà island, a family keeps ducks (more than a hundred, according to the operator) and opens the farm to visitors. Everything you do here is farm work. You fish with a bamboo rod in the family pond, feed the catch to the ducks, and walk through the family's vegetable plot and fruit orchard. The owner and family meet you themselves and show you how to handle the ducks.
The Duck Stop Cát Bà: a farmyard handful of rice, now a paid session
The one everyone talks about is the "duck massage". You lie on a raised platform inside the duck pen, someone scatters rice grain over you, the flock crowds in to peck at it, and you pick the ducks up and stroke them. The handful of grain a duck keeper throws down every day is now the centre of a paid session. Nothing built from an earlier time survives here. What survives is the everyday routine of a duck-keeping household. What that routine means today is for you to weigh: would you pay to do a farmyard chore?
Even the place's names come in old and new layers. Until 2025 Phù Long was a commune (xã, Vietnam's lowest rural administrative unit). The area now belongs to the Cát Hải special administrative zone (đặc khu), but the name Phù Long is still in use, and visitors and the operator call this stretch Otter Valley (Thung lũng Rái Cá). On online maps, the farm's pin used to belong to a former restaurant, Green Mango, which has since been renamed. So most of the reviews you will find there are about that restaurant rather than the ducks, and many other short reviews come from accounts named after sister businesses. Don't let that score decide whether you go.
One more honest note: one visitor said the pecking can leave a few light bruises, though they found the experience pleasant overall. The price is not published in writing anywhere. You ask for it and book through the operator's WhatsApp. Afterwards, many visitors walk over to The Mangrove Café nearby, run by the same group, to sit looking out over mangrove forest and mountains with an egg coffee. If you want to find out how heavy a handful of rice feels when a whole flock comes looking for it, this is where to try.

From someone who has been
Message on WhatsApp first to ask the price and hold a slot. Wear clothes you don't mind getting grain on. Ignore the star rating on the map, because it describes a different restaurant. If you want to linger afterwards, The Mangrove Café looks out over the mangroves, but ask whether coffee is charged separately.

Identity and position come from two sources. The first is the Google Maps pin at the exact coordinates of the place: the secondary name 'The Duck Stop Catba', the type farm, Plus code RW4W+X5H, Cát Hải, Hải Phòng (opened with a browser, Oct 2026). The second is the website of the operator Blue Swimmer, including the home page and the page 'Duck Stop Leader and Organic Farm' (looked up on 14 Oct 2026). From the website come these facts: more than 100 ducks, the countryside of Phù Long village, the name Otter Valley, the restaurant The Mangrove of the same group, and a WhatsApp number for bookings. The unit name 'Phù Long' (not 'Phú Long') was checked against the pre-2025 table of administrative units in the article Cát Bà (island) on the Vietnamese Wikipedia. The way of doing the 'duck massage', the bruises from duck pecks, the fact that there is a fee, the vegetable garden and fruit orchard, and the sale of honey come from guest reviews on Tripadvisor (including a review of 29 Sep 2026). Fishing with a bamboo rod, the view to the mangrove forest and egg coffee come from Google Maps reviews. What was rejected: the duration 'about 20 minutes' and 'egg coffee included in the price', because each point comes from only one guest; the opening hours on Google Maps and Tripadvisor, because they are most likely inherited from the former Green Mango restaurant listing or are default values; the score and review count on both platforms, because they are mixed with reviews of the former restaurant and of accounts belonging to the sister venue. The fee has not been published by the operator. There is no photo because the open photo stock has none taken at this place.
