Terms of Use

Updated 16 Oct 2026 · Version 2026-10-v1 · Earlier versions

This page sets out what you and Vietlume agree to when you use Vietlume. Like our Privacy page, it only describes what the system does today. When the system changes, this page changes with it.

01

What Vietlume is, and who runs it

Vietlume is a map for discovering places, culture and food in Vietnam. It is the website vietlume.com and the Vietlume app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The product is in a trial phase.

Vietlume is built and run in Vietnam by the Vietlume team.

You can browse the map, read about places and use the random draw without an account. What Vietlume stores about you, and why, is on our Privacy page. If you join Vietlume Studio — as a creator or a place owner — the Studio Terms also apply to that part.

02

Your account

Vietlume is for people aged 16 and over. When you sign up, you confirm that you are at least 16.

You sign up with an email address and password, or sign in with Google. In the app you can also sign in with Apple.

Keep your password to yourself. Every device you sign in on is a separate session; you can sign out of each one, and changing your password signs out every other device. The first Google or Apple sign-in to an account that has a password removes that password and signs out every device.

Your display name, username and profile picture are yours to choose, but do not use them to pose as another person or organisation.

You can delete your account at any time: on the web under Account → Security or at vietlume.com/xoa-tai-khoan, and in the app under Me. You will be asked for your password; an account that only signs in with Google or Apple is deleted in the app, after confirming again with Google or Apple. This cannot be undone.

When you delete your account, your comments and the photos in them stay, under the name "Ẩn*****", so that other people's replies still make sense. If you want a comment gone for good, delete it first. Reports and edit suggestions you sent are kept, but no longer linked to you. The full list of what is deleted and what is kept is on the Privacy page, under Deleting your account.

Before deleting, you can download a copy of everything Vietlume stores about you, in the same place.

03

What you post

What you can create on Vietlume:

  • Comments about a place, with up to 4 photos.
  • Star ratings and "worth going?" votes.
  • Folders of places you saved — their name, description and places — and how you share them (Private, Friends, Followers, Link, Public).
  • Edit suggestions for a place's information, and suggestions of places Vietlume does not have yet.
  • Reports about content with a problem.
  • My trips — visible only to you.

Photos, field notes, collections and trips you send through Vietlume Studio fall under the Studio Terms.

Anonymous comments. With anonymous mode on, readers cannot see who you are: your name is masked and your picture is not shown. Vietlume still knows which account wrote the comment, so that reports can be handled. The setting applies to new comments; a comment already posted keeps the way it was shown when you posted it.

You keep the copyright in what you write and photograph. For everything you post — comment text and photos, folder names and descriptions, ratings and votes, edit suggestions and place suggestions — you give Vietlume one right only, non-exclusively and free of charge: to show that content on Vietlume — the website and the app — with your name, or with your masked name when you post anonymously.

In more detail:

  • In the "Travellers before you" section of Discover, comments are always shown without a name.
  • A folder is shown only to the people your chosen sharing level allows.
  • An approved edit suggestion becomes part of the place's information and appears on the place page, without your name. A suggested place shows its name to other signed-in users while it awaits review, without your name.
  • Star ratings are public as an overall score. "Worth going?" votes are public as totals, and your choice is shown next to the top-level comment you wrote for that place — it stays on the comment even if you later withdraw the vote.
  • Vietlume does not license your content to anyone else.

This also applies to content you posted before these terms took effect.

That right lasts until you delete the content. Two things stay after you delete your account: comments and their photos, unless you deleted them first, stay visible under the name "Ẩn*****" as in section 2; and approved edit suggestions remain part of the place's information.

When you share a folder by link or make it Public, viewers can save single places or save the whole folder as their own copy. A copy they saved is theirs and is not deleted when you change or delete your folder.

Before you post a photo for the first time, Vietlume asks you to confirm: "I took this photo or have the right to post it. I do not post photos showing strangers' faces without their consent." You are responsible for what you confirmed.

Photos you upload are re-encoded, and all hidden information in the file — including where it was taken — is removed before storage.

You can delete your comments, ratings, votes, folders and saved places right where you made them. A deleted comment disappears from the page at once; what remains stored afterwards is described on the Privacy page.

04

What you must not do

When using Vietlume, you do not:

  • Post spam, repeat posts or advertising — including undisclosed advertising, such as writing about a place because you were paid or given something, without saying so.
  • Buy, sell or ask for ratings or votes; use several accounts to rate the same place.
  • Post photos you do not have the right to post, or photos showing strangers' faces clearly without their consent.
  • Harass, attack or threaten others, or post hateful or discriminatory content.
  • Expose other people's personal information.
  • Pose as another person or organisation.
  • Post false, misleading or dangerous information about a place, or set up a place that does not exist to deceive others.
  • Collect Vietlume's content in bulk, or copy it, to republish it or use it for another service (section 7).

Anyone who has claimed a place through Vietlume Studio — owner, manager or staff — does not rate or vote on that place. Vietlume blocks this.

Content that breaks these rules may be hidden or removed, as in section 5.

05

Moderation, reporting and blocking

Reporting. You can report places, photos, comments, user profiles, folders other people share, and content Vietlume writes — ready-made trips, travel seasons, stories, area maps, activities and collections. Tap Report on that content, pick a reason and add a description if you like. Reporting needs an account; you cannot report your own content, and the number of reports is limited to prevent abuse.

Vietlume's moderators review each report. The number of reports never hides or removes anything by itself — it only moves a report up the queue. The person reported is not told who reported them.

You can follow your reports in your account under My contributions: under review, actioned, or no violation. For privacy reasons we do not say exactly what action was taken. You are also notified when a report is resolved.

Moderators can:

  • Hide a comment (if it has replies, its place shows "hidden" so the replies still make sense), delete it, or restore it.
  • Hide or remove a photo, or move it to the place it really shows.
  • Hide a place.
  • Take a star rating or "worth going?" vote that looks bought or made on someone's behalf out of the count. It is kept, with the reason, who removed it and when, so it can be restored; meanwhile you cannot rate or vote on that place again. Your comment is not touched.
  • Make a reported folder private: its view link and co-edit link stop working at once, it leaves your profile and Discover, and for 7, 30 or 60 days (the moderator chooses) you cannot share that folder again. People already co-editing it stay.
  • Only remove a folder from Discover: its sharing level stays, and for 7, 30 or 60 days you cannot switch "Suggest in Discover" back on.

You are notified when your comment is removed, or when your folder is made private or removed from Discover — for folders, with the reason and the date you can share again. Every moderation action is logged.

Vietlume does not yet have a separate process for appealing a moderation decision.

Blocking. You can block someone from their profile or from one of their comments. The two of you then stop seeing each other's comments, photos, votes, folders and profiles, and cannot follow, reply to, or invite each other to folders or group rooms. Any follows between you and any co-editing of each other's folders are removed. Vietlume does not tell the person you blocked. You can unblock at any time, under Account → Security on the web or Me → Security settings in the app; unblocking does not restore the follows or co-editing that were removed.

Blocking is not a report: it is not reviewed and removes nothing from anyone. Other people still see you both as usual, and the contributor and creator boards still show you both. If someone harasses you or breaks these rules, report them.

06

Information about places

Place information on Vietlume is gathered from public sources — official websites, the press, open image libraries and public reviews on map platforms. AI tools help collect it, then cross-check it against other sources before that information is shown publicly. Some places so far have only a name and a location. Even so, information can be wrong or out of date.

Opening hours, prices, tickets and whether a place is still operating change over time, including on public holidays. Check before you go. Tide information is for reference only and is not for boating or navigation.

A place with the "Verified by owner" mark carries information its owner entered and confirmed, with the date of the latest confirmation. Vietlume takes no money for this mark. Vietlume does not sell rooms or take bookings; lodging prices are indicative, and booking links take you to other companies' sites.

The "Open Google Maps" button takes you to Google's service; what Google Maps shows may differ from Vietlume.

If you see something wrong, tap Suggest an edit on that place.

07

Vietlume's content, and copying

What Vietlume makes belongs to Vietlume: the stories about places, the introductions and descriptions Vietlume writes, the collections and ready-made trips Vietlume puts together, and the illustrated maps Vietlume draws. Outlines, roads and points taken from OpenStreetMap belong to the OpenStreetMap contributors, as credited on the map.

A place photo belongs to its author, under the licence shown with each photo. You may reuse an openly licensed photo under that licence; a photo whose creator chose "Vietlume only" you may not. Creators' collections, photos and notes fall under the Studio Terms. Content users post belongs to them, as in section 3.

Copying. You do not collect Vietlume's content in bulk, or copy it, to republish it or use it for another service. Indexing for search is fine: search engines and AI assistants may read the site; AI assistants have their own guide at vietlume.com/llms.txt for building a trip link for you.

On the website, Vietlume blocks right-click, text selection, copy, cut and drag on text, and blocks the keyboard shortcuts that open developer tools or show the page source. If the page detects those tools are open, it switches to a "Not found" screen — if you see it without having opened any such tool, reload the page. Input fields, a place's address and phone number, and photos and videos are not blocked: openly licensed photos must stay reusable exactly as their licence allows.

09

Supporting Vietlume

The website has a "Support Vietlume" card with a VietQR code for a bank transfer to the account shown on the code. On a computer, the card opens on the first page each time you open Vietlume in a new browser tab; closing it shrinks it to a small button. On a phone there is only the small button. You can save the code image and scan it with your banking app. The Vietlume app does not have this card.

Support is entirely voluntary. The transfer happens between you and your bank; Vietlume does not record who has given, and giving does not unlock any feature, benefit or ranking on Vietlume.

10

Leaving Vietlume

You can stop using Vietlume at any time, and delete your account as in section 2.

When content breaks these terms, Vietlume acts on the content, as in section 5: hiding or removing comments, photos or places; removing ratings and votes; locking a folder from being shared. Roles in Vietlume Studio have their own rules in the Studio Terms. If Vietlume adds account-level measures, these terms will be updated first, under section 12.

11

Limits of liability

Vietlume is in a trial phase and is provided as it is. We try to keep information accurate, but we do not guarantee that all information is accurate, complete or current, or that the service will always run without interruption.

You decide where to go and what to do. Check opening hours, prices, weather and safety yourself before you go.

Vietlume is not responsible for content posted by other users, or for third-party sites you open from Vietlume, such as Google Maps or booking sites.

Nothing here takes away rights that Vietnamese law gives you and that cannot be excluded by agreement.

12

When these terms change

Whenever the terms change, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it.

A major change is one that changes your rights or obligations. It gets a new version, and Vietlume asks whether you agree.

Any other change — fixing a typo, making a sentence clearer, adding a contact address, adding the name of the legal entity that runs Vietlume — only changes the date.

Until you agree to a new version, you can still:

  • read everything on Vietlume;
  • report content and block people;
  • sign out and change your password;
  • download your data and delete your account.

Everything else that records something — commenting, giving hearts, saving places, editing folders, rating, voting "worth going?", following, suggesting edits, applying to Studio and the like — is paused until you agree.

Current version: 2026-10-v1.
