Where you sit, who to bring

The restaurant is run by the Đoàn family themselves. Bà Lộc, the eldest daughter-in-law, runs the venue at number 14, and at the end of 2025 she and her children and grandchildren were still operating as they have for many years. Several guests describe the stairs up to the upper floor as steep and narrow, so consider this if you are with someone who has difficulty getting around (Tripadvisor reviews). The restaurant is in a two-storey house at 14 phố Chả Cá. Guests eat on the 2nd floor, reached by a small wooden staircase. The Đoàn family opened the restaurant in 1871; in the subsidy era it joined a public-private partnership, and only in 1967 was it reopened at the family home.

Before you come

14 phố Chả Cá, phường Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội

Opening hours have neither an official source nor a dated press article, and aggregator sites give two different time ranges, so Vietlume has not recorded the hours. The family says some places use the Lã Vọng name without permission, and according to guests there is even a restaurant right on Chả Cá street, so look for number 14 exactly. The dining room is upstairs; the way up is a staircase inside the building to the left of the signboard.

The restaurant's name, its address at number 14 Chả Cá street (Hoàn Kiếm Ward), the opening year 1871 and its listing as national intangible cultural heritage come from Báo Hànộimới (14 Apr 2024 and 22 Dec 2025), Hà Nội Online (15 Jul 2024) and Sở hữu trí tuệ (20 Dec 2025). That the restaurant is still trading, the ingredient of snakehead fish of 2.5–3 kg and the dining on the 2nd floor come from Dân trí (4 Sep 2025 and Dec 2025) and Kenh14 (8 Nov 2022). That number 14 is the brand's outlet 1 comes from a sponsored-content article on VnExpress (18 May 2019), that is, the brand's own words. The coordinates follow a survey point on OpenStreetMap (last edited 8 May 2026), matching the position on Foody to within 11 m. The price of 170,000 VND per person is the level customers noted themselves on Tripadvisor (meal in May 2025) and Foody (Jul 2024). The most recent evidence that the restaurant is open is a Tripadvisor review written on 1 Jun 2026. The level of 350,000–500,000 VND per portion in a series of aggregator articles (FPT Shop Feb 2025, VinWonders, Vietnam Airlines) is not used: the articles copy one another, none says they ate there, and a customer's receipt three months later records a different level. The two mismatched time windows on aggregator pages are not used. The phone number is not used, because the directory ties that number to the 107 Nguyễn Trường Tộ outlet of the same family. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons and Flickr under the Creative Commons licence stated on each photo, and from customer photos posted on Tripadvisor and Foody; the latter group has no licence from the authors.
